Pre Anaesthetic Blood Test
Blood tests – why is the veterinary team recommending this?
Blood tests can be used to diagnose many illnesses, aid in medication choices, assessing anaesthetic risk and guide health advice in animals at all stages of life. Risk minimization is paramount in any medical proceeding, whether it be human or veterinary. The use of blood tests allows insight into how well organs are functioning. Organs such as the liver and kidneys are largely responsible for metabolizing and excreting drugs used for sedation, general anaesthesia, pain relief and the management of many chronic illnesses. If either, or both organs, show elevated results we alter our medication choices accordingly to make procedures and chronic management of diseases safer.
Baselines are equally as important, so should you loved one become ill, creating a timeline is also an advantage of routine blood screening.
